Okay we're meeting in front of the Parrochia on Monday and everyone has to paint the church, no exceptions!! Just kidding..... we'll find something doable in the area. Don't forget your camera and hat this week and of course your art materials , just the bare necessities. It'll keep you thinking that you need to simplify your painting too!   Meet at 12:30 pm . I'll have a bunch of the new flyers announcing the student exhibtion for you to take and distribute. It looks good. The photo came out well. And some very good art work starting to come in.

Monday plein air Location Jan. 14 /2013 12:30

Now doesn't this look peaceful? If you haven't tried painting on location give it try.

We're going to meet Monday afternoon in the center of the Jardin, near the Bandstand at 12:30 pm until approx. 3:30pm.  There are benches all around so those of you wanting to sit can check various benches for the best scene. Please try to stay more or less together so I can keep up with everyone. Don't forget your hat , camera, view finder and art supplies of course. A snack helps to keep up your energy. The weather has been nice and warm in the afternoon and looks like more for tomorrow. It may be cloudy but we'll see how it goes.
Lots of new students this week in the studio from Michigan, Kentucky, Connecticut and Ottawa and Vancouver, and the Comox Valley. Lots of returning students too. Welcome back everyone!

 Don't forget to mark your calendar for our first annual student exhibition Jan 25th from 5 to 8pm Friday night. This will continue all week end . Friday's oil class in the afternoon, will be switched to the morning on Fri. the 25th so we can prepare for the exhibition in the afternoon. We'll be getting flyers ready to hand out at the first of the week. Hope we get a large turn out to see all the great art being produced in the Dickson Gallery!! I/m proud of all of your efforts. Plein air Jan 7th 2013 across from the Jardin

This is from the Jardin as it looked in 2007 Not sure if it has really improved. What do you think? The red walls around the Jardin are now a bland beige!

Here's the scene from the Jardin but we will be painting from under those arches looking back at the Jardin. or the Parrochia for those who love a challenge!!  Meeting under the arches at 12:30pm. If you need to borrow a folding stool or need help with equipment come to the gallery earlier. Keep your equipment simple. Just bring what's essential. Don't forget your camera. Mon Dec 24th Plein air location and new watercolors

"Afternoon Plaza Civica"  my watercolor 11" x 15 " A great afternoon painting last week with perfect weather. We were joined by Yvonne, Bill and Isaiah.

" En la Plaza Civica" oil 12 " x 9 " by Tom.  Very interesting to see our two different interpretations of the plaza last Monday.

 

 

So next Monday the 24th  at 12:30 pm - we will be  meeting on Calle Hernandez Macias in front of the Bellas Artes building. Don't forget your cameras for reference photos and  gathering interesting pics of folks passing through. Some great views across the street and along H Macias. The Bellas Artes center is still under repair so we can't access the courtyard yet.
And here's another watercolor I've done recently ;

Plein air on Monday Dec 17 Plaza Civica 12:30pm

The Oratorio Church in front of the Plaza Civica is always a challenge to draw and paint. We 'll see what we can find on Monday at 12 :30. Most of us will  be doing watercolors this time and we'll be meeting on location.

Sometimes it's a good idea to isolate some small area of a large complicated scene and concentrate on getting the essence of that part. Simplify and squint alot!  See you on Monday
